Eiffel Tower Treats Tourists to New Glass Floor

Posted October 14, 2014 by

One of the world’s most famous attractions just became more attractive

Long one of the world’s most iconic structures, the Eiffel Tower has undergone a $38 million dollar improvement – a new glass floor.

The 7 million annual visitors to the Eiffel Tower will now get an even more unique view, a whopping 187 feet above the ground. Other improvements during this phase included replacing the old metal barriers with more visually appealing glass ones, improving the lighting, beautifying its outdoor spaces, and leveraging ecologically-friendly building materials whenever possible.

The Eiffel Tower, named after its designer Gustave Eiffel, was first opened to the public in 1889 for the World Fair. Originally only supposed to remain open for 2 years, the Eiffel Tower became increasingly important for scientific research and even served roles in the World Wars to jam the German radio system.
