Aeon Favorites: Art Galleries in Paris

Posted March 4, 2018 by Aeon Tours

For centuries, Paris has been the very epicenter of worldwide art and culture. From historic museums and the venerable artists that inhabit the city, to the appreciation everyday citizens have for the arts, few cities in history have matched Paris’ place in the art world.

Today, although Paris’ rising cost of living has made it increasingly unfriendly to new artists (and non-artists alike!), the city is still home to countless galleries. While galleries can be found all over Paris, we’ve focused on the Marais as it remains the stalwart of Parisian art, and is one of our very favorite Parisian neighborhoods.

Here are a few of our favorite Parisian galleries in the Marais where you can go to revel in phenomenal Parisian and international art. (We’ve even mapped them out for you below!)

1) Galerie Xippas

Established in 1990, Xippas has showrooms across the world including Switzerland, Greece, France and Uruguay. They are dedicated to contemporary art, and celebrate both new and established artists in Paris. (108 Rue Vieille du Temple, Paris)

2) Modus Art Gallery

Although often overlooked by newcomers to Paris, the Modus Art Gallery is legendary and is a focal point for contemporary and modern art. Its location cannot be beat, as it is in the Place des Vosges – the oldest square in Paris. (23 Place des Vosges, Paris)

3) Laurent Godin

The compact gallery is located near the Pompidou Centre. While small, the Laurent Godin space is filled just right and is not jammed with art. Each of the 3 rooms allows visitors to wander and reflect on the painting and photography that dominate their exhibits. (5 Rue du Grenier St Lazare, Paris)

4) Agnès B – Galerie du Jour

Surprisingly unpretentious, the gallery is named after its owner and sits near the Pompidou. Each of its monthly exhibits is carefully curated and they have recently picked painters, photographers and sculptors to show. (44 Rue Quincampoix, Paris)

5) Galerie Oneiro

Located near the Picasso Museum, the Oneiro has been open since 2014. The gallery supports recognized and developing artists, and supports different forms of artistic expressions more modern video and installation art, along with more painting and sketching.(9 Rue du Perche, Paris 75003)
